SERMON NOTES ➔
Todd Nighswonger, Elder & Lead Pastor | “The Main Thing: Make Disciples”
Synopsis: As Jesus prepared his disciples for his return to the Father, and after reminding them of his authority he had been given from the Father, he left a parting task that they were to continue. They were to “make disciples” (Matt 28:19). However, what does it mean to “make disciples”? Discipleship is progressively learning to live all of life under the lordship of Jesus Christ so that you can help others to do the same. He was to be the main force that shaped their lives, and his task was to be the main one that occupied their time.
Community Group Discussion QUESTIONS:
The book of Matthew gives several examples of what Jesus’ Kingdom looks and was to look like. As a group, talk about some of those pictures of the Kingdom. If that is how we are to live as disciples of Jesus, what area(s) of your life do you see most in the need of transformation?
Todd talked about how discipleship happens in the normal, everyday aspects of life. We are learning and helping others to live Jesus’ lordship, or live like Jesus would, at our homes, places of work, school, activities, etc. Discuss as a group how that is simple yet very difficult all at the same time. Also, discuss why the Holy Spirit is essential in this discussion.
As a group, take some time to discuss how you are doing as a group discipling one another. How might you do better?
