Imago Dei Disability Ministry
What is Imago Dei?
The Latin term imago Dei, refers to the image of God. It is a theological term applied to all humans which highlights the symbolic and unique relationship. We are created in the image and likeness of the triune God. God is very clear that all of mankind has a special relationship with the Trinity.
Then God said, “Let us make man in our image, after our likeness. And let them have dominion over the fish of the sea and over the birds of the heavens and over the livestock and over all the earth and over every creeping thing that creeps on the earth.” So, God created man in his own image, in the image of God he created him; male and female he created them.
– Genesis 1:26-27
Is everyone created in God’s image?
Cornerstone Church takes the holistic view of imago Dei affirming that all human beings bear God’s image, regardless of capacities. Yes, even the poorest functioning human profoundly reflects God’s image!
Utterly Indispensable
God insists that “those who seem to be weaker” (1 Corinthians 12:22-23) are utterly indispensable. Especially when it comes to the body of Christ and the way we function together as believers. Most often, it is individuals with disabilities who fall into that group. People with physical, mental, or emotional impairments are our priority at Cornerstone. We put unique care into the way we love and minister to and with our friends affected by disability.
What is available for families affected by disability?
Sunday school lessons that are taught for all classrooms encourage family discussions during the week. Our classroom and adapted curriculum meet the unique needs of our students, who we refer to as our Cornerstone VIPs.
The older students meet at the worship center and spend time together after worship, discussing the scripture and message taught from the pulpit. Stan Crawford oversees this valuable time with our VIPs (Very Important People).
Our volunteer team is dedicated to loving, teaching, and discipling each student on their faith journey.
Service opportunities with the body of Christ and our community are encouraged to bless others.
A lending library for children and adults is available for all ages and capacities.
We open our hearts and hands to support each family as needs arise.
