BLESS A FAMILY IN NEED THIS CHRISTMAS

We have the opportunity as a church to partner with a couple of schools in the Simi Valley area and minister to families that are truly in need. We are asking that you would bring gift cards from either Target or Walmart and drop them off in the office or put them in the offering plates during service. The stories of these families are diverse (foster care, homelessness) and I believe we can bless them this Christmas, in the name of Jesus with your help! Please share this with your community!

Thinking Rightly in a Broken World: The Mind’s Desperate Need of Wisdom
Todd Nighswonger | December 5, 2021
Main Text: 1 Corinthians 2:6-16

Overview: We have been wrestling with how the mind is renewed so that we might know how to walk rightly with God in a difficult world. Todd connected us to Romans 12:1-2 as the guiding text, and Christian and Spencer took us to Genesis to see how the mind was intended to operate when God created humanity and how it got broken in the Fall. This week, Todd will help us see that the only way our minds can work as God intended is when we rightly walk with the Holy Spirit. And when we do, instead of making a name for ourselves, we make a name for Jesus Christ.

Questions:

  1. If you are “in Christ” (1 Cor 1:30), you have the Holy Spirit (1 Cor 12:13). That is a powerful truth! As a group, read 1 Corinthians 2:6-16 and discuss the significance of receiving the Holy Spirit. Don’t hurry through on to the next question. Slow down and let this truth land amongst your group.

  2. If the mind “is the tool that God has given us to rightly know and interact with God and the world in which we live,” what does it mean that “we have the mind of Christ” (1 Cor 2:16)? Try to think through all the implications of this truth and then encourage one another with those truths.
