Sermon Series: Thinking Rightly in a Broken World
”Wisdom: God’s People”
Todd Nighswonger | December 19, 2021
Main Text: Ephesians (Various Texts)

Overview: Unlike God’s Spirit and God’s Word, the church is messy, isn’t it? However, the church, as messy as it may be, is another gift from God to transform our minds. When the New Testament writers speak of growing up and being transformed into Christ, this imperfect (yet being perfected), pain-filled (yet full of life), confusing (yet full of wisdom) group of people is who they were referencing. God’s Spirit and his Word are essential to our minds being renewed, but apart from his people, we will never become the people God intends us to be.

Questions:

  1. Why is it important to make sure that the information we possess has time to move beyond our heads (right knowledge/belief), into our hands (right actions/habits), and heart (right desires/delights)? Explain how this renews our mind (how we perceive and experience our world and God).

  2. Todd talked about the importance of community: intentionally intertwining our lives with other Spirit indwelt people so that we might have renewed minds. Take time to talk about why you tend to keep people at a distance and how this might inhibit the renewal of your mind. Also, take time to talk about how drawing close to people can also inhibit the renewal of your mind.

  3. Take time as a group discussing how relationships with other Spirit-empowered people, as messy as they might be, are what the Spirit uses to shape us more and more into God’s image. What does this mean for you as a group?
